Whilst providing a wide selection of exclusive titles specifically for its own unique control function, the Nintendo Wii is often forgotten for its action/RPG exclusives. That said, one title released at the end of 2009 took the software sales by storm and won great acclaim throughout gaming circles; Wii’s Muramasa: Demon Blade.

The title tracks two sword slingers as they fight their way towards their own missions. Kisuke is a young Ninja fighting to regain his memories whilst tracking down the ultimate blade, and Momohime, a samurai girl possessed by a foul spirit. Wii’s Muramasa: Demon Blade is geared towards the unique skills both of these characters exert as master warriors.

Gamers can utilize three varied control techniques; the Wii remote itself, or by employing the Gamecube pad or the classic one. Furthermore, in a smart development, gamers can opt to play Wii’s Muramasa: Demon Blade as a focussed RPG, promoting levelling up, or as a simpler action adventure.

Visually, the game impresses where most Wii productions might falter. Likened to Square Enix’s Odin Sphere, the title demonstrates a classic Japanese art style currently becoming popular amongst gamers. There’s a vast range of swords to collect and forge throughout the story too, steeping the audience in sword mythos.

Wii’s Muramasa: Demon Blade is a great exclusive title which undoubtedly earns the kudos it has garnered so far. The various play styles and great visuals provide a title which deserves multiple playthroughs, a definite pick for fans of feudal Japanese ethos and sword play!

use of motion sensing, Nintendo have sought opportunities to branch out on the core control system for the console. The standard Wiimote and nunchuk have functioned well as a foundation for more intricate control options. A fine exampleof this is the Wii wheel, utilized by slotting the wiimote into a wheel shell to permit correct representation of real driving. Along with this, Nintendo have produced the Wii zapper- an updated version of the fan fav orite Wii light gun.

The Wiimote is employed to easily point and ‘fire’ at the screen, many questioned if the Wii light gun was surplus to requirements, but players cried out for development. Light guns aren’t new- theyhave been about for decades now, especially in arcades, but the idea of joining the praised technology of the Wiimote into a light gun isclearly a ingenious concept.

Similar to the Wii wheel, the Wii light gun is basically a shell into which the Wiimote comfortably fits, and is just used to mirror the feeling of using a gun. Thus the Wii version isnot a light gun in the standard sense. This is often seen as an advantage as recent plasma and LCD TVs have difficulty picking up the light signals of other light guns, but the Wiimote is produced with current technology under consideration, and so suffers no such issues.

Many recent Wii gaming releases have been bundled with the Wii light gun, including Resident Evil : Darkside Chronicles. The gun is very popular with rail shooters like this game, and is promoted together with other new titles, like Dead Space : Extraction.

It’s totally worth testing the Wii Light Gun ; it’s lightweight, cushty and actually brings back the classic feel of FPS arcade games. It also helps propel gamers into the drama and suspense of the game, as you see and feel exactly what you would in the real situation. So take up your Wii Light gun and enter the battle!
